SAM-e
We hope you will enjoy using our SAM-e formulation with the same level of enthusiasm we had in creating it.
SAM-e A REVOLUTIONARY SUPPLEMENT:
SAM-e is most assuredly a revolutionary supplement. The advantages of SAM-e have been discussed in newspaper articles, magazines, the internet, or simply through word of mouth. Whether you're a first-time user, or you've been a fan of SAM-e for years, you probably have some questions.
THE STORY BEHIND SAM-e, WHAT IT IS, WHERE IT CAME FROM:
SAM-e (S-adenosylmethionine) was discovered in Italy in 1952. The subject of extensive studies, SAM-e has been used in Europe since 1975. It was one of Europe's best kept secrets until a few years ago, when it became available in the U.S. SAM-e helps maintain healthy cartilage, promotes a positive mood and well-being and supports liver health.*
SAM-e is involved in over 35 biochemical reactions involving enzymatic transmethylation.* The methylation process is the mechanism by which the body gets rid of potentially damaging compounds, synthesizes neurotransmitters, makes components of cartilage, regulates enzyme activity within the cell and maintains the flexability of cell membranes.*
In the body, the process of donating a four-atom methyl group to neighboring molecules is fairly uncomplicated. This molecular exchange takes place billions of times a day, affecting systems such as development and functioning. Without this process, life as we know it might not exist. Known as the star universal methyl donor, SAM-e may play a role in increasing the synthesis and breakdown of specific neurotransmitters and enhancing the sensitivity of nerve receptors in the brain.* SAM-e is known to be an important methyl donor for many substrates such as proteins, hormones and nucleic acids.* How does all of this translate into everyday terms? SAM-e is naturally-occurring and is involved in several key areas of functioning. Science has been looking into this remarkable supplement and studies have been concentrated in three key areas:
- How SAM-e supports joint function
- How SAM-e boosts mood and emotional well-being
- How SAM-e contributes to liver health
SOME SOURCES OF SAM-e:
All living things contain the molecule SAM-e, but SAM-e is not an herbal extract or a hormone. Though the body makes SAM-e from the amino acid methionine, increasing methionine by food intake or other means may not boost SAM-e production. Supplementation with SAM-e is the easiest way to increase intake.
The best source of SAM-e, besides your own body is supplementation that adheres to quality control standards, provides consistent standardized levels of supplementation and is backed by years of experience. Our SAM-e provides all of these, plus you have the assurance of knowing you are doing something right for yourself.
SAFETY:
Perhaps the best news we can pass along is to assure you that, in clinical studies, SAM-e is well tolerated by most people. However, you should discontinue use and consult a doctor if you experience any adverse reactions including gastrointestinal discomfort, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, anxiety or mania.
CLINICAL STUDIES:
Since the early 70s, SAM-e has been extensively studied by a wide variety of scientists and researchers. In Europe, over 70 studies involving upwards of 1,400 participants have been published. And even though these studies have been conducted by different researchers at different times, the fact remains that the benefits of SAM-e are not in doubt. There are several books available that discuss the benefits of SAM-e and cite clinical trials where the properties of SAM-e have been studied.
A NOTE ABOUT OUR ENTERIC COATING:
The enteric coating ensures that the breakdown of SAM-e occurs in the small intestine. Clinical trials indicate that absorption is more efficient in the small intestines rather than in the stomach. In addition, the enteric coating is designed to protect SAM-e from moisture and serve as a protective barrier so that SAM-e can be absorbed where it can provide you with the greatest benefits.
Interactions: You should consult your doctor before using SAM-e if you are taking prescription medications. Individuals affected by mania, bipolar disorder or Parkinson's disease should not take this product. Consult doctor before use if you are a pregnant or lactating woman. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if gastrointestinal discomfort occurs.
